Decal Printing defined

Decal printing is a method of printing designs, patterns, and images by transferring them from one surface to another. Basically, decal means the substrate of the design that will be transferred to the other surface. Some people call decals printer as transfers. The decal printers are called transfers because these printers are used to transfers designs from one surface to another. There are three types of material that are usually used for making printing designs these are Vinyl, paper, and plastic. Not only these three types of material decal printing can de be done on different materials like wood, coated wood, metal, glass, fabrics, and leather. Decal printing can also be done on rubber.

Methods of decal printing

There are two methods of doing decal printing, one is dry method and the other is using heat or water. Here are some common types of decal printing

• Water-slide decals

Water-slide decals are the printing patterns that use adhesive. This adhesive becomes a little loose when it connects with water. Water-slide decals are fixed after making the adhesive loose. You can fix them somewhere else and reposition them if you need them. But repositioning can only be done once or twice not more than that. After fixing the decal on its correct position the squeegee is applied so you can fix it permanently.

Water-slide decals are used mostly for are large graphics work. On large vehicles, decals are used for decorations and advertisements.

• Heat-decals

Another type of printing decals are heat-decals usually these decals are used for sophisticated printing like logos and letterheads. This method of printing decals is used with the help of thermal transfers. In the method of transferring heat-decals, a hot stamping machine is used.

Heat-slide decals are used because people consider them more permanent than all the other transfer decals.

• Vinyl cut decals

This is the most common type of printing decals. Vinyl cut decals are very easy to apply because you only need to peel off the backside of the pattern or design and apply it wherever you want.  Usually, this method is called the peel-off and stick method.
